Top Germanic Names 2018:
Boys - Harry, Charlie, Alfie, Freddie, Oscar, Logan, Archie, Henry, William
Girls - Isla, Ava, Charlotte, Daisy, Freya, Alice
Comments: Interesting that the Germanic names are twice as common for boys as for girls. On the girls favor however Germanic names are picking up the pace: Hayley, Kaylee, Emma and Madison are all Germanic, and Freya is straight up Nordic deity naming (#18 in the UK). As the bible loses influence the rate of people naming their children out of it is declining, so the Germanic is replacing the Hebrew.
A disturbing trend of the boys is that all the popular names are diminutives of the real Germanic combined names. The Germans combined two words to make a noble sounding name; the current trend is to stand this on its head and make very childish sounding men's names. (alfie, freddie, etc). Probably some psychological problem but it is nice to see the Germanic overtaking the biblical in the popular imagination.
